Role Description

The Assistant Project Manager supports the Project Manager in the planning, coordination, and management of construction projects from startup through completion. This role assists in overseeing project documentation, cost control, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and communication with project stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

The Assistant Project Manager works closely with field leadership and project staff and plays an important role in coordinating project activities while developing the skills necessary to advance into a Project Manager role.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Project Manager in managing overall project activities in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Support project cost management including tracking budgets, reviewing job cost reports, and assisting with forecasting
  • Assist in maintaining project schedules and preparing lookahead schedules in coordination with field staff
  • Manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project correspondence
  • Track subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and invoices
  • Assist with coordination and management of subcontractors, suppliers, and equipment resources
  • Review project drawings and specifications to support construction planning and field operations
  • Work closely with superintendents and foremen to monitor jobsite progress and resolve project issues
  • Assist in preparing and negotiating change orders and documenting changes in work scope
  • Participate in communication with owners, engineers, inspectors, and other project stakeholders
  • Prepare and submit pay applications
  • Monitor weekly timecards and assist with job cost reporting
  • Promote and enforce company safety policies and procedures
  • Support project closeout including punch lists, as-built documentation, and final project deliverables
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Project Manager or President

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 4-year engineering or construction related degree or equivalent combination of technical training and/or experience preferred
  • 3 to 7 years’ experience in construction required; Water/Wastewater preferred
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Office suite (such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Advanced AutoCAD, P6 and Bluebeam preferred
  • Must have excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently
  • Ability to assess and quickly solve problems

Salary and Company Benefits:

  • Salary Range ($110,000 - $140,000)

Working Conditions:

100% of the time is spent either in the office or on the project. Must be able to work flexible hours and locations throughout Southern California.
